About June 8th!
-
Join us on June 8, 2019, as we walk to the Rideau Hall to spread awareness! We are raising awareness for spinal conditions such as Scoliosis, Hyperkyphosis, Scheuermann's and other spinal deformities. Scoliosis is a medical condition causing the curvature and rotation of the spine and is the most common orthopedic condition among children. We want to increase the public awareness of scoliosis and other spinal conditions in order to educate others, to promote early detection, diagnosis, and early treatment options. The event includes the Walk led by Nina, Walk T-Shirt, Free Screening, Educational Booths (Children can design their own mini brace), Zumba in the park, Scoliosis exhibit, and Cupcakes from Steph's Cakery. You can also brace your parents, try on braces for all ages, listen to people's scoliosis journeys and ask questions to teens who have been through surgery, bracing, and Schroth physiotherapy treatments. There will be a couple of Disney princesses for a photo shoot! We will warm up with Louise before going on a 2K walk to Rideau Hall with Nina! You can also try walking with Nordic poles with Nina. Dr. Kevin Smit will be doing a screening demo, you can hear stories from patients who have gone through bracing, surgery and the Schroth physiotherapy. Live musical entertainment from Madison Kline. Many gift baskets will be raffled out at 3:00 pm! Raffle basket tickets will be sold 3 for $10! This year we are also doing a painting class with artist Carol Robinson! All funds raised will go to the scoliosis department of CHEO and go towards a new neuro-monitoring computer and program that allows them to collect spinal cord monitoring data during the scoliosis correction surgery. It will be a day of walking, painting, treats, and fun!
